Viral Warts

Viral warts are benign, keratinized skin growths caused by cutaneous types of the human papillomavirus. They can develop anywhere on the body but are most frequently found on the hands and feet. Depending on the patient's age and clinical picture, they are treated with salicylic acid, antiviral creams, or electrocautery.

Everything you need to know

Viral warts or verrucae vulgares, are keratinized skin growths that can appear anywhere on the body, but are most commonly found on the hands and feet. These skin changes are caused by cutaneous types of the human papillomavirus (HPV).

After a dermatological examination and diagnosis, the doctor recommends appropriate therapy based on the clinical presentation and the patient's age.

Local treatment includes the use of salicylic acid and antiviral creams. If satisfactory results are not achieved, the treatment of choice is removal using electrocautery.
