Squamous cell carcinoma is a malignant skin tumor. The most important risk factors are genetic predisposition and excessive sun exposure. Individuals with fair skin who spend a lot of time outdoors are at higher risk.

It appears as keratotic nodules of oval, round, or polygonal shape. It most commonly develops on sun-exposed areas such as the lower two-thirds of the face, cheeks, nose, lower lip and scalp. Prognosis is generally good if there are no metastases to regional lymph nodes.

Diagnosis is made through clinical examination and confirmed by dermoscopy and histopathological analysis.

Prevention is the same as for basal cell carcinoma and includes limiting sun exposure, using SPF 50+ sunscreen, wearing protective clothing and hats, and avoiding direct sunlight. Regular self-examinations and dermatological check-ups are essential.
