Radiesse collagen stimulators are FDA-approved dermal fillers intended for subdermal application. They are used to correct moderate to severe wrinkles and smooth skin folds, especially nasolabial folds.
The unique gel formulation containing calcium hydroxylapatite provides Radiesse with a foundation for immediate lifting and contouring, while the high density of collagen and elastin enables long-lasting improvement in skin tone and quality after treatment.
Radiesse is an injectable implant composed of smooth calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a sodium carboxymethylcellulose gel carrier. The Radiesse filler is diluted with saline solution to create a calcium hydroxylapatite suspension, which is then injected beneath the skin in a mesh-like pattern using a minimally invasive technique.
An anesthetic cream is applied to the area of the face or body being treated to make the procedure more comfortable and virtually painless. Afterward, Radiesse is injected under the skin or into the subcutaneous tissue using a cannula or needle.
Following the treatment, mild side effects such as bruising, redness, or swelling may occur, but these are temporary in nature. The procedure does not require downtime, and patients can immediately return to their regular daily activities after treatment.
Immediately after application, visible correction of the treated area of the face or body can be observed. Over time, the gel is absorbed while stimulating fibroblast activity in the dermis. This initiates the process of neocollagenesis, leading to the gradual production of new collagen in the skin. The newly formed collagen provides prolonged correction at the treatment site and helps maintain the desired skin structure by stimulating collagen production for one year or longer.
Radiesse stimulates the production of type III collagen, which is gradually replaced by type I collagen. Type III collagen stabilizes and organizes type I collagen, ensuring its structure and thickness. As a result, a stable and organized collagen network is formed. After the calcium hydroxylapatite particles are fully broken down, the newly formed collagen structure remains, restoring firmness, a youthful appearance and tighter-looking skin.
- Results are immediate, natural and subtle. The correction is long-lasting but not permanent or lifelong.
- Provides both immediate and long-term skin rejuvenation.
- Smooths wrinkles and folds instantly.
- Calcium hydroxylapatite particles form a scaffold that stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen for up to one year and elastin for up to nine months after just one treatment.
- Over time, the calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres are naturally broken down and metabolized by the body.
- It is important not to overcorrect or “overfill” the treated area with Radiesse, as the final results gradually improve over several weeks, when the true effect of the treatment becomes visible.
- Creates long-term benefits for the skin through stimulation of collagen and elastin production.
- Also used for correcting volume loss on the back of the hands.
